| | Description | The purpose of the two-day American Red Cross Babysitter’s Boot Camp is to
provide individuals ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills necessary to
provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or
adult guardians. This course will cover how to care for breathing and cardiac
emergencies for infants, and children. Participants will also develop skills in
leadership and professionalism; safety and safe play; and first aid. You get the
knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school-age children.
Combining video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a
complete learning experience.
Babysitter’s Boot Camp shows you how to:
- Respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid
- Rescue breathing and other appropriate care
- Make decisions under pressure
- Communicate with parents to learn household rules
- Recognize safety and hygiene issues
- Manage young children
- Feed, diaper and care for infants
- Caring for victims of sudden illness
- Heat and cold emergencies
- Bandaging wounds
- Caring for bleeding and muscle and bone injuries
- Basic precautions to prevent disease transmission

Standard First Aid - Valid for 3 years.

| | Additional Information | Included in the cost of the class are: Babysitter's Portfolio, First Aid
Kit, Babysitter's Handbook, Infant and Child CPR Skills Card, First Aid Skills
Card, CPR and First Aid Workbook, lunch both days and snacks.

| | Confirmation Details | To help ensure an enjoyable and successful experience:
- Dress comfortably; most skills are practiced on the
floor.
- Please arrive on time; no admittance is permitted 15
minutes after the start of the class.
- Bring a pen/pencil and reading glasses if necessary.
- A lunch break will be provided for classes that are
all in one day. Lunch will be provided for both days of the Babysitter’s Boot
Camp.
- All necessary course materials will be provided during
class.
- If you are enrolled for a two-part class please bring
back all your materials the second day.
- Practice sessions can be physically demanding. If you have any questions
about your ability to participate, consult with your Health Care Provider
prior to the course. If there are any special needs that the instructor should
know about, please call 1-800-337-2338.

| | Refund Policy | Refunds will be issued under the following two circumstances:
- If you are unable to attend the course, a refund will
be issued for cancellations made at least seven days prior to the start of the
course, less a $25 administration fee. Cancellations received less than seven
days prior to the start of the course will result in loss of the entire
registration fee. You may register for another class up to one year from the
original date of payment.
- The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago reserves the right to cancel
classes due to insufficient enrollment. In the unlikely event that your course
is cancelled we will make every attempt to contact you. In addition, we
suggest calling our 24 hour voicemail hotline number, (312) 729-6189, to
receive information on any courses that may have been cancelled. Enrollees in
these courses will be given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept cancellations via the internet at
this time. Please call Customer Service to cancel your enrollment or transfer
to another course. Students who do not attend class and have not canceled
their registration are not eligible for a refund.
